Dan blessed the life of everyone he came in contact with. He would greet our faculty every morning with "Good morning! It's a beautiful day!" and by the looks of his smile, you knew it was going to be. He genuinely wanted to help people live a better life. On one of his vacations, he set out to go fishing in Oklahoma. While he was there he struck up a friendship with some locals and learned that they lived in less than desirable conditions. He took the rest of his vacation helping them make improvements on their humble home improving lighting in the home, a chicken coop, fencing, etc. He generously provided what was needed to do this. One time he asked me what I needed help with and I jokingly said I needed ideas for dinner. He went out and bought me 3 packets of soup mix. He was just like that, he saw a need and anonymously filled it.
Dan taught me what it is to be a happy, humble servant. I am forever grateful for his influence and hope that a part of his legacy lives on in the way I hope to treat people.
