Sadly just heard of David’s passing. Wish I could have attended his service, so I could bid farewell to my water wizard friend, “dog park David”.
I consider David one of my first friends in Utah. We met at the dog park where he just struck up a conversation as he does.
I will miss our fishing adventures, Belgian waffle dinner, and shared stories.
I know Beef and Spot are excited to go fishing with him again 🤍
It was hard to hear this news a couple weeks ago. Even though it has been years since I’ve had a chance to talk with him, Dave has, for a long time, been one of my favorite uncles and people. It’s hard for me to think of a better storyteller than Dave, or of someone I remember bringing the same joyful energy into a room, or so sincere a regard and appreciation for others.
These are the things I’ll probably remember him best for. But also for all the wonderful wild-hunted and carefully prepared food he cooked up for the game-day parties he and Paula hosted through the 90s. (We always new which kind of game 🏈🦆🦌Dave was most excited about those days!)
And I won’t forget the skill and delight you could see when Dave would set a fly hook on a big trout, and how often he’d then end up sending you home with the beautiful fish. Paula, Remington, Colt, I love and am thinking of you guys. Miss you and I hope our paths cross again soon. Take care, best wishes, and condolences, English Brooks
Growing up with Remington, I have many fond memories of Dave. He wasn't just my best friends father, he was my first scout leader, my first employer, a mentor, and a good example of a man. Whether we were playing with Bull and Bear, jumping the fence and running amok in the back field, working on his loft or at his shop, fishing, hiking, waterskiing, hot tubbing, or camping; we were always having fun or learning something new. I remember telling a tall take about a manatee jumping into my father's boat. He just smiled and accepted it for what it was. I remember later learning about their habitat and environment from him. He never brought it up. He let the silly lie of a 7-8 year old boy be just that. He was kind in a very Dave type of way. Never the standard, but always in a way that left you curious. I know he's proud of the men that his boys have grown into. The world needs more of the weird that Dave Hill brought into it. The world is a darker place without him.
We only just began our friendship with Dave this past spring when he invited our family over to fish, and we're very sad and shocked that our time together was cut so short. When we got the invitation, I didn't understand how we were going to fish in someone's backyard but WOW were we blown away! What an amazing yard he created! Dave was so kind and patient with the kids, they had the best time and have been talking about that day ever since. You created a lasting memory for these kids, Dave. We all miss you and the light you brought to our ward.
I’m sure going to miss my friend and neighbor, Dave. It feels like we had a lot of unfinished business - neighborhood parties to host, people to meet, stories to share. Dave always had a good story or two up his sleeve.
I met Dave randomly at Lowe’s only to quickly discover we were neighbors! I appreciated him helping me feel more at home in my then new neighborhood, teaching my daughters how to fish in his little greenhouse pond, and continuing to check in on me regularly. I enjoyed our “holy” and wise conversations near the fire or next to one of his ponds. I learned a lot about life and adventure from my crazy, funny, outgoing, and thoughtful friend, Dave. I miss him already and wish we could have another one of our world-solving talks.
I am sending my love to his parents and kids, siblings, and many, many friends and family members. Sadly, I will miss his services, but I would love and appreciate if anyone out there would like to reminisce or to exchange hugs sometime thereafter.
