DeLoy Olsen Weaver's Obituary
Deloy Olsen Weaver of Riverton, Utah, passed away quietly on September 24, 2025, at the age of 86 due to the physical tolls of cancer, after a courageous battle. He was a mischievous son, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Deloy was born August 9th, 1939, in Ogden, Utah to loving parents Rulon Leslie Weaver and Pauline Allen Harrington. He was raised in a family of 10 siblings, seven brothers and three sisters, and was 7th in line to receive the family’s favorite hand-me downs. Young Deloy grew up in Franklin, Idaho where he attended Grade School. When Deloy was eleven, the family moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. His father ended up passing away that same year from leukemia. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1957, where he lettered in golf.
After high school, Deloy joined the United States Air Force in 1958 and served four years till 1962 as a Radar Traffic Controller. One year later he met the love of his life, Karen Alene Hancock. They were married June 28th, 1963, and later sealed in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple.
After serving in the military, Deloy started college at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and completed a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, one of the first schools to offer this program.
After graduation, Deloy started working at Lockheed Electronics at the NASA Space Center in Webster, Texas, working on the first space shuttle for two years. He and the family then getting tired of the humidity of Texas, decided to move back to Utah, where he ended up working for Univac Computer Corp., designing software that would run the precursors to the personal computers. He worked there for three years till the contract expired. Willing to make a career change, Deloy decided to enter the real-estate market by becoming a real estate agent for 7 years. Real estate was very lucrative until the market bottomed out with home loans exceeding 20% interest. Deloy then returned to his passion for computer programming, working for Hercules Aerospace. His job was to program automated guided robots that carried missile propellant to the mixers for the Minuteman, MX, and Polaris missile systems. After 10 years, Deloy was laid off. He was then hired at the University of Utah Pharmacy, setting up and maintaining their computer network and hospital user’s PC’s. This job lasted 15 years till he retired at the age of 65.
For forty-two years, Deloy made his home in Riverton, Utah where he raised his family and built lasting relationships. He had many interests and talents, including golf, gardening, raising farm animals, building barns, snowmobiling, 4-wheelers, boating, and problem solving with duct tape, bubble gum, and bailing wire. In his high school years, he once caddied for Bing Crosby for a week—a memory he truly cherished, always sharing with players of subpar handicaps while on the green. After retiring, he enjoyed Recreational Vehicle traveling, and spending time with loved ones.
He faithfully served in the LDS Church throughout his life, holding multiple callings, serving a mission with his wife, and serving his community with dedication, passion, and love while sharing his home-grown vegetables with others.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Alene Hancock Weaver, his children; Lance Weaver, Shawn Weaver (deceased), Holley & Stuart Smith, Quinn Weaver, Kim McKell, Katrina & Jeff Milne; and three brothers; Jerry, Jack and Kent Weaver. He was preceded in death by many of his siblings and his favorite son Shawn Weaver.
He leaves behind a legacy of love in his 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10th, with a viewing from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. and funeral services beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the LDS Church, 12691 S. 3600 W. Riverton, UT. A lunch will be provided for the family after the funeral services. Interment will follow at Memorial Estates Redwood Road after the luncheon, 6500 S. Redwood Road West Jordan, UT.
