Earleen Smith's Obituary
Earleen Smith, age 71, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2017 surrounded by her children and loved ones. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 25, 1946 to Helenbeth Smith and Maurice Norton.
She was fortunate to have a loving adoptive father, Heber Brown Smith. She spent her life dreaming of being an excellent mom and achieved that dream with four children and five grandchildren who adore her. If a life well lived is exemplified by how much a person is loved, Earleen lived so well she leaves many heartbroken at the loss of her. She was kind, generous, exhibited the highest integrity possible, cared about the environment and loved being a gardener and beekeeper. She trained as a medic in the Utah Air National Guard reserves and served for 13 years as tactical sergeant. She retired from the Moran Eye Center, where she relished being part of a community working to preserve and restore eyesight. That gift was returned to her by the loving doctors of the Moran in the last months of her life.
She was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 10 in the Tabernacle on Temple Square. In her early adulthood, she served in the Young Women organization in her ward as a Beehive leader and loved the girls she taught. Most recently, she enjoyed serving the members of the 13th and Fairoaks Wards as a Temple Worker, a Primary Teacher and then as a Counselor in the Relief Society Presidency.
She is survived by her children Tiffany (Terry) Parkin, Tami (Chris) Mandarino and Matthew (Dana) Porter; five grandchildren Keaton, Kienna, Kaden, Kolter and Isabella; two sisters, Maurine (James) Marshall and Thelma Smith; two brothers Archie (Cindy) Smith and Robert (Regina) Norton; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews she adored.
She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Benjamin Joseph Porter, her father Maurice Julius Norton, mother Helenbeth Blackburn Smith, adoptive father, Heber Brown Smith, Sr., younger brothers Heber Brown Smith, Jr., Daniel LaVar Smith, and Wallace Blackburn Smith.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Sandy West Stake Center (8670 South 220 East) at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moran Eye Center in her honor.
