Effie McCarty's Obituary
Effie Anderson McCarty died Wednesday, August 21, 2013, in the home of her son Bruce, in Orem Utah of advanced Parkinson’s disease. Effie was born in Beaver Dam, Utah on July 6,1928, to Clara and Joseph Anderson. Raised in Lyman, Wyoming her family moved to Magna, Utah while she served a 2-year mission in Sweden. When she returned home she married Donald McCarty, Sr. of Magna, Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple on October 14, 1955.
Effie and Donald started their family in Magna, having three sons Donald Jr., Jeffrey, and Bruce, before moving to Samoa. They lived in Samoa for three years during which time she gave birth to her fourth son, Kenneth. She finally had a daughter, Linda, during the one year the family spent in Hawaii before settling in Southern California. Effie raised her children while she worked as a seamstress, tailor, housecleaner, and daycare provider. She held many callings in the church and after retirement served 7 missions with Donald: Samoa, New Zealand Temple, Hawaii/Provo Family History Center, Atlanta Georgia Temple, Cal State Northridge CES, and two missions at the Bishop's Storehouse.
Effie was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She could hold her own by always being quick to respond with a playful remark or hilarious comeback to the many jokers and teasers in her family.
Effie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Donald L. McCarty, Sr., her older sister Carol, and younger brother Harold Anderson. Effie is survived by her siblings, Jane Pixton, Joseph Anderson, Marvin Anderson (Thea), Eutona (Leland) Dixon, Sally (Gary) Maxfield; children, Donald Jr., Jeffery McCarty (Karen), Bruce McCarty (Tasha), Kenneth McCarty, and Linda (Iafeta) Sao; Foster daughter Telaya (Kent) Ka’ahanui; brother-in-law Daryl McCarty (Helen); 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Effie will be laid to rest at a Private Family graveside service Friday, September 6, 2013.
