Elaine "Candy" Carole Meckling's Obituary
Elaine C. Meckling, age 86, formally of Meadowbrook, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born February 3, 1937, in Reading, PA, to the late Clayton Hoffman and Dorothy (Hofmann). She spent her childhood riding horses on her father’s farm, and avidly reading books in her mother’s home on Windsor Street.
Elaine graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Education.
She became an elementary school teacher in the Abington School District for 28 years. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering at Briar Bush Nature Center, the Philadelphia Flower Show, and as a Docent at Meadowbrook Farms Estate.
All who knew “Candy” will recall her love for desserts and chocolate, her generosity, and her everlasting beauty with eyes that literally sparkled when she smiled.
Elaine was the beloved mother of Carole Lee Meckling, Lauren (Jim) Klein, and Alison (Scott) Schlisman. She was the very proud grandmother of Jacob Dean Palfreyman, Colin Drake Palfreyman, and Brian Jameson Schlisman.
To honor our mother’s memory, we are holding a celebration of her life on October 29, 2023, 11 AM, at Briar Bush Nature Center, located at 1212 Edge Hill Road, Abington, PA 19001.
In place of flowers, donations to the Briar Bush Nature Center can be made in Elaine Meckling’s name.
