Barbara Smith
In memory of my mom, Whenever I think of my mom, I think of my childhood. My mom was beautiful as a young woman: she had jet black hair, green eyes and ivory skin. She seemed very happy prior to her marriage. However those days ended and another chapter of her life began when she married my father. This chapter was a time of adversity; however, it was also a time when mom showed her greatest strength. My father was a tyrant and all of us suffered from his wrath and abuse. My mom was the sole breadwinner and we lived very meagerly. My mom was a nurse and walked to work(approximately 15-20 blocks one way). My mom was the”glue” that kept her children together. She was very selfless: her children always came first. My mom encouraged higher education: all her children went on to college and received degrees, except one, he became a very talented artist. My mom never gave up on her children and made sure we all stayed together by her hard work and perseverance. My mom had integrity, morals and values. She also was a strong Catholic and believed in the principles that Christ taught. She passed her values on to her children. I know my mom is in heaven and is no longer in pain. I believe she is with my 2 sisters: Lisa and Mary. I love you mom and I look forward to seeing you. Barbara
