Condolences to you Miss Denise, thinking of you and your family!!!
One day when I was at Madsens home visiting Evelyn, we got talking and she told us she and Verle would go buy groceries and take them to their daughters homes when they had a baby , and spruce up their homes. I was so touched by that that I decided I needed to do the same. We flew to Washington when our daughter Becky had her second baby , on the way from the airport to her home I said to Mike let’s stop and get them groceries. It was so very fun for us and well received by them. She sure was a stellar mom! Once when I was at her home she showed me a chart, that she found so humorous , from the olden days when she and sister Leatham were visiting teaching supervisors . They had a list of those who consistently got 100% and those who didn’t, the 100 percenters were going to heaven, the others were on a blacklist, going elsewhere. Okay , it was hilarious, even if I couldn’t tell it very well here. I was so endeared to her. She showed me the most beautiful salt dough nativities! I think her grandkids made! They were so intriguing ! We would talk about her family and my family! She was so fun to visit I would give up on my to do list once I got to her house and knew I would be staying a couple of hours
I remember when we were talking about food shortages and getting a food supply in relief Society and she said (she was up in front for some reason). “Well I’m just gonna be glad for it because we can all finally lose weight!” It was Hilarious! She used to come up after Sacrament meeting while I was playing postlude on the organ and thank me for how beautifully I played that it made her want to sing more.. that really meant a lot! She would comment about my latest instagram post and say “I don’t like Gabe jumping off 60’ bridges ! I don’t want to know about that!” She kept up on our family , all 14 of our kids, but especially Gabriel.
I remember my daughters loved her when she was an advisor in young women’s! They come home lagging about her sense of humor. She made it fun for April and Meadow just by being herself. When she was released our ward had been shifted around a bit so in relief society everyone had to take a minute to introduce themselves . She said “I’m Evelyn Madsen and I don’t like relief society , I just got released from Young women’s and now I have to be in boring relief society.” Everyone broke out laughing! She was that confident, right?

Evelyn Madsen is my Aunt and a wonderful lady! Lots of memories visiting at her and Uncle Verls house, especially at Christmas!! I was blessed this last year and a half to visit with her and talk on the phone, reminiscing about family, sharing loss of loved ones and just chatting. I love you Aunt Evelyn, you will be missed!
Prayers and love to my cousins and all their families at this time. Love you all!
Love,
Linda
Evelyn was such an amazing woman. She always made you feel special and Loved. She was the best "grandma" figure to all us kids in the hood. I always looked up to her and I'm sad I didn't go visit her more often after I left the hood. Such great memories of her that I will cherish always. Love to you Denise and the family during this time.
I was lucky enough as a child to feel like I was part of the Madsen family. Evelyn was like a second mom and if I needed a scolding she wouldn't hesitate to give me one. Evelyn will be missed but I think of her with Verl and all others from our block. What a great reunion. I love you Denise and will always be greatful for our friendship.
I have great memories of piling in a car, the four of us (Bud, “Henry” (Marietta), Bob and I, to head for Provo (to see grandmom Zana) and Uncle Verl and aunt Evelyn, and our cousins “the Madsen girls.” This was every weekend or every other weekend over years. Verl and Bud were best buddies besides being brothers—this was a great family moment. Years later I was lucky to have some long phone chats with Aunt Evelyn—who had an extraordinary memory of these fun family visits. Evelyn is a true “Woman of Valor” and I hate to see her leave us, but what an amazing life and amazing family! Rest in peace, Aunt Ev! Love from Joe Madsen and Ilonna
