Floyd Henry Bird Jr's Obituary
Floyd Henry Bird Jr. was born on April 17, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Josephine
Hickenlooper and Floyd Henry Bird.
He passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025 in his home with family by his side after a short battle with cancer of the duodenum.
Floyd moved from Woods Cross, Utah to the Skagit Valley in Washington State when he was seven. He attended high school at Burlington–Edison High School in Burlington, Washington, participating in basketball, football, baseball, and also played tuba in the marching band. He later attended Skagit Valley College, where he played basketball and baseball. Upon graduating from Skagit Valley, Floyd then attended Brigham Young University, where he was a member of the BYU marching band and graduated with a degree in business management.
Floyd’s professional life began working in the floor covering and home decor business for many years prior to starting his own business, Intermountain Interiors. Later in his professional career, he worked as a financial planner. After a short retirement, Floyd returned to work following one of his many passions. He worked as an outfitter in the archery department at Cabela’s in Lehi, Utah.
At the age of 10, he was introduced to archery by his dad and belonged to the Silver Arrow Bowmen Club. This experience sparked his passion for archery and the outdoors. He spent a lot of time camping and hunting with family and friends. Floyd hunted any time he could, but his passion was the mule deer archery hunt.
In 1964, he met his sweetheart, Kathy Perkes after returning from his mission in Texas for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were married on July 10, 1970 in the Logan, Utah temple. They enjoyed and celebrated 55 1/2 years of love and fun together raising six awesome children along the way. Dianna, Dennis, Kiersti, Kaci, Terri and Brent. They have twenty grandchildren, six great grandchildren with another great-grandchild on the way.
Floyd was a very faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many capacities. He served as a Varsity Scout Advisor, Teacher, and as a member of several bishoprics.
Floyd was a man of high integrity, compassion and kindness. He was a hard worker and always provided for his family. He fought valiantly through many health issues with a positive attitude over the past six years.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, children: Dianna (Bret) Borman, Dennis (Heather) Bird, Kiersti (Dusty) Felska, Kaci McNeel, Terri (Tom) Moore and Brent Bird.
Floyd is also survived by his grandchildren: Megan, Ian, Keegan, Braydan (Amy), and Allison Borman; Brendan, Jordan, Payton (Kelsee), and Emmalia Bird; Kiera Felska; Tregan (Eden), Brant (Kiera) Deveraux; Liam and Carson McNeel; Ashley Moore and Mechelle Moore (Tristian Dyakanoff) and his great-grandchildren: Max, Carter, Avery, Addilynn, Aila and Raelynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Josephine, his sisters: Jean, Dolores, Janet and Helen; in-laws, Weldon and Jean Perkes; as well as several brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Orchard 5th Ward Chapel (1120 East 600 North, Orem, UT) on January 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
A viewing will be held Thursday, January 8 from 6-8 PM and from 9-11 AM on the day of service at the same chapel.
Burial services will be held at the Orem City Cemetery in the lower section, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, UT.
