We all have had key people enter our lives at just the right times. Their influence helps shape us and make life’s adventures more full. Frank was this type of person for me.
Growing up as the youngest of six with my next sibling being eleven years older, I never experienced having a sibling close to my own age until Frank came to stay with us in Washington state for what now seems like a golden season. He had finished high school and I was right in the thick of it.
Frank always seem to know his way through things and had a thoughtful opinion on every subject. This fueled many talks where we lost track of time in search of wisdom about current events, all things transportation, dating, music, and the mysteries of life and spiritual things.
With two teenage boys in the house, dad never ran out of property improvement projects for us to do at home, at the family-owned Dolphin Apartments, and medical offices. We would come home with voracious appetites and Frank and I would normally go through an entire loaf of bread in one sitting building our custom-deluxe Dagwood sandwiches.
Some of dad’s projects involved using power tools I had never used before. I would cautiously watch Frank use the tool, trying not to make it look obvious, and then I would take a turn next. He had a way of instilling confidence to try new things. He enjoyed inspiring people and planting seeds of possibilities.
He liked to share his passion for music and a variety of other technical interests always inviting others to take the next step of improvement. As the years went by, conversations with Frank always seem to pick up where they left off.
We are so grateful for Frank and how he left the world a better place. Keep making music Frank. You were right, pianos rule!
With gratitude for the time we had,
John & Brenda Kerr
