Geraldine Shreeve Mickelson Allen "Geri"/"Nammy"'s Obituary
On August 23, 1933 Geraldine was born to Caleb A. Shreeve Sr. and Leone Blanche Wright in Ogden, Utah. She had two brothers, Caleb A. Jr. and Roger W. Shreeve. Geri passed away on April 9, 2026.
Geri was raised in Ogden until age fifteen when she went with her family to Petersburg, Va., as her father, Colonel Shreeve was transferred there by the US Army. Geri's last three years of high school were filled with fond and fun memories. Geri was Drum Majorette, President of three school clubs and President of her Sorority, leads in all dramas and she was also a guard on the girl’s basketball team. Upon graduation in 1951, she returned to Utah to go into the School of Nursing at the Thomas Dee Memorial Hospital.
She met John A. Mickelson and was married Sept. 12, 1952 in the LDS Manti Temple. John was in the US Air Force and was sent to Korea in 1953. Geri couldn't finish her nursing training in the fifties, because the students couldn't be married.
In 2006, Geri was presented with an Honorary RN Award from the American Nursing Association for her fifty plus years of dedicated services for people with disabilities.
Geri and John had 6 children. Five Daughters and 1 Son and two of the children had special needs. Geri was a strong advocate for the rights of the disabled. She formed a Pre-School Program in Idaho Falls, Idaho for disabled children in 1961, long before the concept of early intervention had been accepted among local officials. She was Chairperson for the Parent Advisory Board for Davis County Development Center (now Pioneer Adult Rehabilitation Center). They awarded her the honor of "The Parent of the Year" for three years and "Davis County Citizen of the Year" for all that she accomplished on local and state level for the disabled student to have equal opportunities.
Geri also served four years as Chairperson on the Davis County School District Parent Advisory Board and Committee member of the Parent Advisory Board for the Utah Division of Family Services. Geri was Vice President of DCARC. She organized and co- ordinated the Davis schools, Davis Sheriff's Posse, advertising, donations, prizes, and awards program for the annual Bike-Hike to Antelope Island. This yearly fund raiser benefited the needs of Davis County's disabled.
Geri enjoyed her many years of being a part of a yearly panel of Mothers that taught the Davis High School students in the Child Development class about the disability of their child and the impact on family life. She was responsible for the annual Disability Awareness week in Davis County schools, which enabled students to gain more understanding of the disabled.
Geri had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints. She has served as Primary President, Primary Counselor, Primary Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Visiting Teacher, Relief Society, Activity Committee, Temple Ordinance Worker, Volunteer and Missionary at the Bishop's Storehouse in Kaysville, Utah. She had an amazing talent for decorating and loved sharing this talent for any occasion for church and her family parties.
Geri's husband John died in 1992. Geri had been widowed for ten years when she married William C. Allen Sr. on Jan. 10, 2003. Bill and Geri truly had a special love and companionship in their senior years. They especially enjoyed sharing the same birthday. Bill passed away in 2015.
Geri loved her family, music, dancing, games, camping, four wheeling, sewing, quilting, crewel embroidery, burnt almond fudge ice cream and all of God's creations and she'll be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Geri is preceded in death by her Parents, Caleb A. Sr. and Leone B. (Wright) Shreeve, two Brother's, Caleb A. Shreeve Jr. and Roger W. Shreeve, first Husband John Allen Mickelson, second Husband William Clyde Allen Sr., her Son John Allen Mickelson II and her two Daughters, Laurie Leone Luck and Linda Kay Mickelson. Geri is survived by her three Daughters, Lisa Mickelson, Leslie Allen (Bill II), Lucy Davis (Nathan) and nine Grandchildren and thirteen Great Grandchildren and three Great-Great Grandchildren. All of them were Geri's complete joy.
"This day is remembered and quietly kept, No words are needed, we shall never forget. For those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, we know you are near, forever loved, forever missed,
and forever dear."
