Glen Boyd Nelson's Obituary
Glen Boyd Nelson, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, devoted church leader and wonderful friend passed away peacefully at home on January 28, 2020.
Glen was born in Logan, Utah on September 21, 1926 to Boyd Nelson and Mary Etta Hunter. He attended Ogden High School, Weber College and the University of Utah where he graduated in Business Marketing. He served in the US Army during World War II in the Tenth Mountain Division in Italy. The balance of his army career was in Carlisle, Pennsylvania at the Army Information School. Glen traveled the Rocky Mountain territory 25+ years as a manufacturer representative for several apparel firms. He had showrooms in Salt Lake, Denver and Billings. He retired September 21, 1991.
He first met Ruth Marjorie Paulson when he was at Ogden High School and she was at Mt. Fort Jr. High. After completing army service and college graduation, they dated for a year. On December 21, 1950, they were married in Ogden, UT at the Bertha Eccles Hall. On June 17, 1952, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Glen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Elder’s Quorum President and High Priest Group Leader. The calling he enjoyed most was being a greeter at Sacrament meeting where he could meet ward members and get to know them by name. He and Ruth served as missionaries on Temple Square where they helped to open the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. They also served for six years doing family extractions work.
His life focus was his one true love, Ruth, his children and grandchildren. Survived by his wife, Ruth, children, Kimball, Kris Szelag (David), Kara Shaw (Devin), 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, sister, Grace Smith, son, Kevin, and granddaughter, Kathrynn Shaw.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, at 12:00 pm at the Holladay North Stake Center, 4395 S. Albright Drive (2145 E .) Holladay, Utah. Viewings held Friday, Jan. 31, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the church and 10:30 am prior to the funeral service.
