Grant George Ashby's Obituary
Grant George Ashby Jr. passed away December 17, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born November 23, 1938 in Salt Lake City to Grant Alvin and Dora Ilene Ashby.
Grant Jr. graduated from Murray High School in 1957. He served active duty in the United States Air force from 1957 to 1958. and in the Air Force reserves from 1958 to 1965, as aircraft radio repairman.
He was a “jack of all trades” with his love being in the “integrated circuit” field. He loved to invent and create. He started his own security business call Eagle Security.
He loved being on his old tractor. He truly made a “diamond” out of some really “rough” stuff on his 2 ½ acre “Ashby Acres” in Tooele Utah. Grant loved boating. His favorite spot was Lake Powell, but really he loved anywhere that he could get the boat in the water. He loved to take people on his boat and share the fun with all. He loved camping in Yellowstone and on Skyline Drive. He and Jane especially loved when his parents would meet them on Skyline Drive with their dune buggy and then he and Jane would go off riding on all the roads and trails. He loved snowmobiling up on Mirror Lake Highway.
Grant loved his horse “Annie Chrome”. He loved being involved with 4H as Michelle showed and competed. They would take their motor home and every one would hang out in between their events and eat lots of food. He always made sure all felt welcomed.
He loved restoring old cars. Grant started his love at an early age. His father was a mechanic so Grant came by his love and knowledge instinctively. In High School he was a part of their car club in which he owned and worked on a 1948 Hudson he also had a 1957 T-bird convertible. He has restored a “Saab” and a “Studabaker” and finally a 1986 “Fiero”. Doug has inherited the “Fiero” and will carry on the legacy of working on old cars.
In 1982 Grant embraced the “gospel of Jesus Christ” and became a valiant servant to our Heavenly Father. Teaching in High Priest Group was his greatest love. In these last couple of weeks he shared with me his favorite scripture story, “2000 strippling warriors”. When I asked him why he shared with me that it was because of the love and respect that they had for their mothers. Grant loved his mother. I am sure that she was the first one to welcome and assist him through the veil. We love you Grant (Dad). We will see you soon.
He is survived by his loving wife Jane Eldora Ashby and his dear father Grant Alvin Ashby Sr., his two brothers Rod (Jeanne) Ashby and Gary (Patricia) Ashby. He has 4 children, Cindy (Bart) Wilde, Doug (Shelly) Ashby, Mark (Debbie) Ashby, and Michelle (Morrie) Graves. He is Grandpa to 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Tooele 4th Ward on 192 W. 200 S. December 22, 2012. Times: viewing at 9:45 to 10:45, services at 11:00 and graveside service will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E. 10600 S.) at 3:00 pm.
