Greta Jeanette Barton Ball's Obituary
Greta Jeanette Barton Ball, 89, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully January 13, 2026, at her home in Peterson, Utah.
Born May 28, 1936, to Sherman Stewart Barton and Myrtle Aroha Embley. Mom was raised in Ogden Utah, graduating from Ben Lomand High School and Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education. She met her husband Billy Ray Ball in California during her first year of teaching and they married on January 15,1960. They had 4 children.
Mom worked in education for more than 30 years, positively impacting the lives of her many students. She enjoyed reading and doing puzzles and crossword puzzles. Her talents included knitting, crocheting, and cross stitching. Mom made treasured quilts, sweaters, baby dresses and blankets for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Greta was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many church callings and especially loved teaching Relief Society and doing compassionate service for the members of her ward family.
She is survived by her devoted husband Bill Ball; daughter Debi Sandlund; sons Bill Jr. (Stephanie), David (Karen), Lyle (Jill) Ball. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Kadi Larson, Tyson Sandlund, Logan Sandlund, Jason Ball, Coby Ball, Jennifer Virgil, Shantel Valencia, Shane Ball, Allison Crotzer, Megan Ball, Jeremy Ball, Nate Ball, and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Aroha Barton, sister Barbara, brother Kent, and great grandson Cooper Sandlund.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Allison Apedaile for her exceptional care and support during Greta’s final months. A private celebration will be held to honor mom’s life.
