Harley Tyler Sandberg Jr's Obituary
Harley Tyler Sandberg Jr., known to his friends as Tyler, was born 12/28/1945, in Columbia South Carolina, to Harley Tyler Sandberg Sr. and Evalyn Sandberg, both of whom preceded him in death.
Tyler was the eldest of 9 siblings: Jude(deceased) Tracey(deceased), Janet, Tim, Thane, Jill, Jocelyn(deceased) and Todd.
In 1965, Tyler received a call to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North British Mission, where he served faithfully until 1967.
Upon returning, he was drafted into the U.S. Army on May 23, 1969, and was inducted on September 15,1970. Tyler served honorably during the Vietnam War until his discharge on March,29,1971.
During his military service, Tyler earned distinguished honors, including two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Star Medals, the Combat Infantry Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, And the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Tyler was seriously injured in Vietnam, and was sent home to recover when stable.
On July 8,1971 Tyler Married Nanette Arnout. Together they had 6 children: Sarah(deceased) Tyson, Esther, Juston, Dan, and Emily.
After their divorce in 1984, Tyler moved to Salt Lake City Utah, where he met and married Marie Mardrian. Marie brought three children into the family: Kent, Lisa, and Lori.
Throughout his life, Tyler faced serious health challenges with characteristic courage and resilience. He survived a stroke at 54, another at 71, along with that a brain aneurysm that required surgery in California.
After a period of recovery, he moved to a Veterans Home in Salt lake, later transferring to Payson Utah Veterans home, where he lived for the past 8 years.
Tyler became a widowed in 2022 after Marie's passing.
In recent years, Tyler's health declined further. He passed away peacefully from respiratory failure on April/13/2025, at the age of 79.
Tylers life was marked with service, strength, and perseverance. He was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, and grandfather. He left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
