Doug was always very kind to us as kids, so much so my younger siblings referred to him as “grandpa Goff.” Though nothing ever made it necessary he would go out of his way to bestow kindness upon us. I recall numerous occasions where he’d take them out to ice cream, or sneak them little candies unbeknownst to my mother, who was a bit more than stingy when it came to sweets. One particularly precious occasion he stood up at the pulpit at church and, he must have been in cahoots with them before hand, one of my little siblings ran up to join him. He gave them a sweet and down they went, right back through the stairs they had swiftly climbed. He was a light on a hill and an example of pure Christlike love. I’m sure thankful for the time we got to spend with him while he was a mortal angel, I’m sure the Lord has even more wonderful things in store for him now.
