Harvey Douglas "Doug" Goff's Obituary
Doug Goff was the first of six children born to Harvey Douglas Goff, Sr. and Eva Margene Steiner. Born on October 8, 1957, in Montclair, NJ, he died on October 22, 2023, in Ogden, UT following a heart attack.
Doug graduated from Ogden High in 1976 where he played football, ran track, sang in high school musicals, and first discovered his love for singing in choirs. He was an Eagle Scout and served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Munich Germany. He later graduated from Weber State College in Accounting. He married his “Pearl”, Lisa Stephens, on March 22, 1985, in the Ogden Utah Temple.
Family, friends, and neighbors knew Doug to be a sometimes challenging, often incorrigible, but consistently soft-hearted rascal. He nearly always had an opinion and was certain others were entitled to it.
He loved his wife, their son Jaren, and his wife and grandchildren dearly, and relished telling others about them. As his health declined, he bore his physical trials admirably, and his focus shifted; love grew, and relationships began to heal. He was a talented photographer, an avid Louis Lamour novel reader, and lover of good music and the beauties of nature. Later in life he found pleasure in listening to his wife play the piano, sitting in their garden soaking in the sun, watching “stupid shows” that made him cry, scanning family scrapbooks, and writing his personal history.
Doug was a member of the Forest Green Ward and loved to share his testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and the power of His atonement to change lives. It gave him hope. He loved the gospel and found great strength in its teachings. He was an advocate for the underprivileged and underserved and sought to bring relief to the outcast. He sought to do good.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife, Lisa, and their beloved son Jaren Goff, D.O., his wife Amberly, and six beautiful grandchildren, who meant the world to him. He is survived by all his siblings: Craig (Nancy) Crocker, Mesa, AZ; Cheri (Larry) Winzeler, Heber City, UT; David (Carlin) Goff, Ogden, UT; Duane (Colette) Goff, Uintah, UT; Carolee (Art) Brothers, Park City, UT; Lorinda (Brent) Belnap, Ogden, UT; Darrell (Tricia) Goff, Highland, UT; and a wonderful crew of nieces and nephews and their children.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at 1401 Country Hills Drive, Ogden, UT. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m at West Jordan Cemetery, 7925 South 1300 West, West Jordan, UT.
Due to construction and road closures, those wishing to attend the graveside service, take 90th south exit from I15 in Salt Lake City, turn west, then north on 1300 west.
