I am very grateful for the time that Grandpa Marley spent with me. He told me so many stories about his life and so many jokes that I could never remember. He was always the guy that made everyone laugh and was loved by all. I have so many awesome memories of being at his house in Ogden.. I don't know where to start.
He was an amazing Santa Claus and wanted me to carry on that family tradition. He told me all his little secrets about playing the part and how he made so much money doing it.
I inherited my green thumb and love of nature from him. I remember this big old plum tree at the back of his garden that all us kids used to clime and rob all the biggest plums. They were by far the best plums I've ever tasted. We would sit up in that tree and watch him fiddle around in the garden for hours.
He taught me how to hunt and skin animals, but NEVER kill something that I'm not gonna eat. He also taught me how to fish, how to tie a proper knot, how to set up a tent, how to drive a boat, lawnmower, golf cart and his old truck.
I didn't understand why he and grandma slept in separate rooms until the first time that we went camping at alligator lake, he kept me up all night with his snoring.. It had me thinking there was a bear outside my tent.
OH!!
He taught me what dicky doo is..lol
I asked him one day how he was doing..
He said..
"Well, My doctor told me that I'm doing well, except for my dickie doo".
"Grandpa said, what the heck is that Doc!?"
His doctor said "That's when your belly sticks out further than your dickie doo"
I laughed and told Grandpa that he just needs to diet..
He said "WELL, WHAT COLOR IS IT!?!?"🤣
He use to take me to the Maverick and the diner, where he got me addicted to COFFEE.
He told me one time about how he use to smoke cigarettes.. long long time ago,
I think he was in his early 20s.
He said that he would walk for MILES..
Through the fields, to a friend's house, where they would secretly smoke cigarettes so that no one would find out.
We had long talks about how everyone has there own vice or different things that they get addicted to, and how hard it can be to break those habits. ..you just need willpower.
It makes me sad that my boys (Kaleb and Logan) never really got to know him like I did.
They got to see him a couple times when we were up there for Christmas. He told one of his jokes (that I can't remember) but it was about him sharting his pants..🤣
He had everyone cracking up..
I will NEVER forget him and he will always be in my heart♡
Love you Grandpa!
