James Francis Martin Jr's Obituary
Jim Martin Jr. born Torrance, California to Mavis Younker and James Martin Sr., passed away at the young age of seventy. But if you asked him, he was twenty-nine.
In his younger years he was a surfer, disco dancer and an avid fisherman that frequented the beaches in southern California.
He had too many jobs to list, but the one he was known most for was being a carpenter. It was that job that led him to Utah. When work became scarce, he moved his family to Northern Utah to better their lives. He worked as a carpenter for over half his life and helped build many of the buildings in Salt Lake City. He was never afraid of hard work and was always helping his family with many projects.
He was a man of many skills ranging from installing pools to fixing cars. Anything you wanted, he could build it or he would fix it.
Music was a huge part of his life, especially the Beatles. He could play any of their songs on his guitar. This talent and love passed on to his youngest daughter who could also play the guitar. Both of them have the amazing talent of being able to play anything they hear. Jamming out with dad is one of her favorite memories of him.
He loved his older daughter's artwork, especially the comics that he would occasionally appear in. He was always so supportive of her photography. He surprised her with many pieces of photography equipment over the years to help get her started. They also went to countless movies together, often “sneaking off” to go see the newest superhero movie or anything with action.
Going to Yellowstone National Park was one of his favorite places to visit. Seeing the buffalo was always so exciting for him. He always had to stop and snap a picture whenever he saw one.
His grandkids absolutely loved it when he came over. He filled their houses with love, laughter, usually McDonalds or extravagant gifts that took up too much space.
Jim was loved by everyone who came into contact with him. He would talk to anyone and always leave a smile on their face.
Even though he left California over thirty years ago the Californian never left him. Anytime it was windy, raining or any chance of snow he alerted his family immediately. His family's safety was his top priority.
He is survived by his children and many grandchildren. His final wishes were to have his ashes laid to rest where he was most at peace in Provo Canyon, Utah.
