Jared Reed Christensen's Obituary
Jared Reed Christensen
Better Know as Derk.
Born September 15, 1930
Died May 6, 2023
Jared “Derk” Christensen passed peacefully at his home on May 6th 2023 in the arms of his loving granddaughter Monique. He was diagnosed with cancer on April 26, 2023 and only lived for 11 short days. He was cared for by hospice and his sweet daughters Michelle and LaR as well as his loving granddaughters Shantel, Jenica, Monique and Chelsie.
He served in the Navy from May 6, 1949 to May 5, 1956. He then married Shannadean Dipo (deceased) on Aug. 28, 1956 and they were sealed in the temple on Feb. 24, 1979. Together they worked in the LDS temple for 19 years.
He owned Chris Brothers Roofing with his brother and roofed for many years. Later, after selling his share of the business to his brother, he started a tanning salon (Body Brown) with his wife Shan which lasted for 10 years.
He was a man of many talents and one heck of a wood craftsman.
When he was young, he started making wood bows and arrows, one of which made history in an archery competition. Later in life he would make anything from curio cabinets to rings to bolo ties and jewelry boxes of many shapes and sizes. There was nothing he couldn’t make, including rock birdhouses, which anyone that has driven by his house can tell you.
But his real passion was his yard, he loved to plant all kinds of vegetables and flowers. He liked planting almost as much as he loved weeding and sharing his crop with those around him. He shared many things with his friends and family, including his living room pool hall, how to "Camp Ugly", his sense of humor, and the know how to win at Screwy Lewy.
He will be truly missed by so many but it gives his family joy knowing he is reunited with his wife Shan, sons Shane and Jared, and other family members that went before him.
He children: Debbie Brown (Bruce Brown deceased), Kerk Christensen, Michelle Henderson Jones (Dan Jones), Bradley Christensen (Alissa), and LaR Morgan (Rick)
His posterity: 34 Grandchildren, 88 Great Grandchildren with one on the way and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday May, 13, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 2450 W 10400 S, South Jordan Utah.
The viewing will be from 10am to 10:45am, funeral services from 11am to 12pm, and lunch for the immediate family will be at 12:30pm.
