Jean Lloyd's Obituary
Jean Bagley Lloyd
2/8/27- 1/2/18
Our wonderful mother and grandmother (Myrtle) Jean Bagley Lloyd passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in West Jordan, Utah on January 2, 2018. Jean was born on February 8, 1927 in Murray, Utah to Cyrene Neff and Martha (Davidson) Bagley whom she adored.
Jean’s childhood was spent in Cottonwood during the school year and at Callao, Utah during the summers where her family owned and operated a sheep and cattle ranch on the Pony Express Trail. Jean graduated from Granite High School and attended Utah State University before graduating from the University of Utah.
She married Harvey Lloyd in the Salt Lake LDS temple on June 3, 1950 and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage. They spent their first 11 years running the family farm in Central, Idaho. They then made their home in Cottonwood (Holladay), Utah. She was a favorite school teacher and taught in Sugar City, Idaho, at Granger High and for many years at Bonneville Junior High. Her favorite subjects were Speech, Drama, Journalism and English.
Jean was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had steadfast faith and unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that guided her everyday life and which she bore frequently through word and deed. She was a talented cook and could whip up a delicious meal on the spur of the moment. She enjoyed hosting family, church and neighborhood parties featuring homemade ice cream, homegrown raspberries, scones, and crepes. She was optimistic and her positive attitude was infectious. She loved the arts, opera and the theater and sang while working around the home. She enjoyed her retirement years traveling with Harvey, tutoring refugees in English and making quilts for friends, family and others in need. Her children and grandchildren were the joys of her life and she loved serving and having fun with them. She enjoyed the outdoors, flowers, gardening, hiking on the family property in Big Cottonwood Canyon and visiting Callao.
Jean is survived by her children Robert (Sharon), Marianne (H. Lee Sleight), Jennifer (Nathan Andelin) and Paul (Wendy), brother Frank Bagley, 15 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harvey, brothers Charles and David, sisters Marian and Catherine, and granddaughter Katie.
