Jeffery Steven Orr's Obituary
Jeffrey Steven Orr passed away peacefully in his home on May 15, 2025. He will be cherished and honored for the wonderful brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend that he has been throughout his life.
Jeff was born in Stockton, California, on October 22, 1951. He was the oldest of 2 boys. His childhood was split between Illinois and the central coast in California. His favorite place was the beach.
After high school he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His love of his Savior, Jesus Christ, was a driving force throughout his life. He strove daily to be who his Savior wanted him to be.
Shortly thereafter, he met and married the love of his life, Peggy Jane Morris in Arroyo Grande, California. They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple in 1973. Their life took them from California to Texas and on to Utah, where they built their home in Orem in 1984. They lived in that same home until they both passed in 2025.
Jeff and Peggy raised 6 children and 20 grandchildren. Jeff was a caring father who taught his children to value their individual strengths and helped them see that they were able to accomplish anything they set their minds to. He showed them, by example, how to fix a leaky sink, how to repair a hole in the wall, how to cook an excellent chocolate cake, how to care for the sick, how to love your neighbor, how to serve, and how to love the Lord.
Jeff lived by the maxim “Do what matters most.” In all things, he strove to choose the better part. In the Church, he served to the best of his ability in his callings with the Young Men, High Council, in the Bishopric, and as Bishop. In daily life, he worked to do the best he could in all things, always putting God first. He served everyone, whether it was by helping them with yard work or home repairs or by talking and spending time with them. He knew what was most important and always made time for it.
To list a few of Jeff’s many talents, he was a gifted musician, playing the guitar and writing songs. He was a carpenter and wood worker, building the basement of his house and the playhouse in the backyard, among many other things. He loved to run and cycle, and he participated in more than 100 marathons, half marathons, and other community events in the last 10 years alone. He wrote and communicated expertly, and this helped him progress in his career and succeed in many personal projects and goals. He was an excellent listener and could easily see into the heart of the matter. He knew how to give advice and encouragement that lifted. He sincerely loved and cared for all of those around him. He was a true disciple of Jesus Christ.
Jeff is preceded in death by his mother, Anne Ricci, and by his sweet wife, Peggy Jane Morris Orr. He is survived by his brother, David Edwin Orr; his six children, Jason Allan (Paloma) Orr, Lisa Anne (Rusty) Rogers, Carrie Elisabeth (Jared) Whittaker, Aaron David (Aimee) Orr, Christopher Preston (Kayleen) Orr, and Matthew Steven Orr; and his twenty grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at 575 South 400 West in Orem, Utah. The service will also be available to watch online. A viewing will be held at the same location on Tuesday, May 20, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday, May 21, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service.
