Joan Burton Mohr's Obituary
Joan Burton Mohr of Layton Utah
Our Sweet Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Sister Joan Burton Mohr passed away peacefully and returned to her Heavenly Father on 01/18/2021 in Logan Utah after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born August 15, 1942 to James Charles Burton and Gertrude Marian Dana in Ogden, Utah where she was raised in a home that was built by her Great Grandfather. After graduating from Ben Lomond high school, Joan met Dennis J. Mohr while she was still in High School. They were married in Elko, NV 2 weeks after Joan graduated from High School in 1960. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised their family in Bountiful then later moved to Layton.
Joan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After their children were raised Joan and Denny served a mission in Hillsboro, Texas. She loved the people they met and served there. She served at the Bishops’ Storehouse with her husband and she loved being an ordinance worker in the Bountiful and Ogden temples.
Joan made friends everywhere she went. She had the gift of being able to talk to anyone anywhere. She spent her life serving others. She had a special love for the primary children both in her ward and special needs primary. Her primary children loved her deeply. Using her sewing skills she made scores of teepees for children over the years. One year she made 70 and donated them to the Festival of Trees. She would give them to her primary children and anyone she wanted to make happy. They all loved and enjoyed them.
She is survived by her husband Dennis J Mohr, her sons Brian Jay Mohr and Kyle Devin Mohr, her daughter Jana and husband Matt Anderson, and a special “adopted” daughter, Roshanak Puri (Jonathan and grandson, Gideon). She also leaves behind seven Anderson grandchildren: Hannah and husband Wyatt Wollenzien, Zachary, Alyse, Allyson as well as Brian’s daughter Randi Harshman and her daughter Jadyn who is the only Great-Grandchild. She also loved their dog Molly just like a grandchild. She is also survived by three sisters and one brother. Madeline Strong (Mesquite NV), Marian Sheridan Vandenberg (Roy), Jean Law (West Point), Jim Burton (Idaho). She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers in law, Darrel Strong and Frank R. Sheridan.
Joan’s legacy will live in the hearts and minds of her family and all of those whose lives were touched through her service.
The family would like to thank her caregivers at The Gable Memory Care Center in Logan for the wonderful care they provided. Also in lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice, some of Joan’s recommendations would be the Church education or missionary funds.
