Joan Carole Corlene Thompsen's Obituary
Joan Carole Corlene Thompsen, age 85, passed away on June 25, 2026, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, after a courageous battle with cancer. She faced it with the extraordinary strength, optimism, and grace that defined her entire life.
Joan was born on February 25, 1941. A woman of deep intellect and curiosity, she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Middle Eastern Studies with a focus in Hebrew. Yet her greatest achievements were not found in academics alone. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a steadfast friend, and a faithful servant in her church community. Her compassion for others was boundless, and she was always among the first to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.
Joan was the daughter of a chef, and she inherited a lifelong appreciation for great food. She was an avid reader with an insatiable love of learning, particularly in her dedicated study of the gospel. She also loved to dance, and her family takes comfort in knowing she is already planning to take a ballet class in the next life.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Thompsen; her daughters, Cherie Penrod and Kiersten Thompsen; and her sons, Chris O'Callaghan and David Thompsen. She was preceded in death by her son, N. Maxwell Thompsen.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 30, with time and location to be announced. Details will be shared with family and friends as they are confirmed.
