JoAnn Beasley Penrose's Obituary
After a full and joyful 90 years, JoAnn Beasley Penrose peacefully passed away on October 25, 2024, surrounded by her devoted family. JoAnn was born in Cedar City, Utah, on June 22, 1934, to Clinton James Beasley and Grace Markman. She was a beloved identical twin sister to Janeen and shared a close bond with her older sister Virginia.
As a young girl and teenager, JoAnn's passion for baton twirling reflected her vibrant spirit. She graduated from Cedar City High School before attending Brigham Young University, where she pursued a degree in Human Development and Family Relationships, with a minor in Secretarial Sciences. At BYU, JoAnn and her sister Janeen auditioned for the Program Bureau and traveled extensively, sharing their talents with audiences across the country.
Following her graduation, JoAnn served as a secretary for Gordon B. Hinckley, a role she cherished deeply. While working for him, JoAnn met her soulmate, Charles W. Penrose. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 2, 1960. Together, JoAnn and Chuck built a life filled with love and faith, welcoming three children and enduring nine miscarriages with grace and resilience. She is survived by her children: Steven Charles Penrose (Kathryn), Elise Hutchinson (Richard), Linda Clark (Gary) and many wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, JoAnn lived her faith daily. Her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was central to her life, and she found profound purpose in service. JoAnn served in numerous callings, including as a Relief Society teacher, Mutual president, and Family History Library employee. She especially loved her work in the Bountiful and Salt Lake Temples, and served three stake missions, always with a humble heart.
JoAnn’s greatest gift was her deep concern for her family’s spiritual well-being, a legacy she nurtured with tireless dedication. She was an enthusiastic genealogist, finding joy in uncovering family stories and preserving them for future generations. Her scrapbooks stand as treasured records of family history, woven with her love and commitment to remembering those who came before. JoAnn's love for her family and her Savior, Jesus Christ, remained her greatest joy, despite her many health challenges. Her gentle example of faith, resilience, and service will continue to inspire all who know her. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to her family’s eternal happiness.
