John H Hill's Obituary
After a four-month battle with Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), John Hampton Hill passed peacefully, on April 1st, 2024, April Fools’ Day. John was always a joker, so naturally we questioned the authenticity of the news.
John was born to William Howard Hill and Ruby Little, in Montebello California, January 07, 1950. He spent his youth and most of his adult life in Southern California, where he fell in love with mother nature. He had a passion for everything outdoors; surfing, scuba-diving, fishing, sailing, motorcycling, backpacking, shooting, archery and anything else he could find to explore life.
John graduated from Pioneer High School in 1968, where he played in his first band (The Kustoms) as a drummer. Playing and performing in bands became a big part of his life. After high school, he attended Rio Hondo College in Whittier, California just long enough to realize he didn’t have to be there. He was later called to the Manitoba, Minnesota Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served faithfully. He always had a love for people and willingly shared whatever he had or knew with anyone in need.
He enjoyed working with his hands and had the gift of ingenuity. He loved to tinker. His home was his lab, where he’d create toys to experiment with outside. From new loads of ammo and bows and arrows to hydrogen generators for cars. Accidental holes in the wall and blown-up vehicles were just part of research and development.
John was always a kid at heart and loved to play. His last three years were literally spent in a daily combination of fishing, bowling and shooting. Usually fishing multiple times per day and catching more than the daily limit. If we could sum him up in one sentence, it would be... He lived a free man, doing and creating what he wanted, and he embraced and enjoyed all of it. We will miss him dearly while he’s off on his new adventure.
He is preceded in death by his brother James Hill and his beloved wife Nancy Hill and has been eager to be back at Nancy’s side. He is survived by his brother Wayne Hill; his sons, Joshua Hill, John Hill and Jacob Hill; and his grandchildren Jarom Hill, Jonah Hill, Adeline Hill, Annabel Hill, Emma Hill, Jack Hill and Ruby Hill.
We would like to express our appreciation to everyone who has sacrificed time and talents to ensure love and comfort during these last few months.
A public viewing will be held Saturday April 6th, 2024, at the LDS chapel located on 1911 E 1850 S, Spanish Fork, UT 84660 from 12-1pm.
Graveside services will be held at Spanish Fork City Cemetery at 2:00pm.
