Working as a dispatcher for SLC911, I had the privilege of working with "Officer Lundgren". He was so kind and warm to all the dispatchers, and willing to serve the community in whatever capacity he was called. Despite the challenges he faced-especially while battling cancer, he was always so kind, and never complained. John just seemed to take life in stride. I express my love and gratitude to him, and to his family for all the sacrifices they made that enabled him to serve our country, and the citizens of Salt Lake City. John Lundgren is loved, and a void is felt, and will resonate for quite some time. My love and condolences go out to his family.

I met John in 1992 working the SLCPD 916 van. I left, and upon returning 4 years later had lost all seniority. When it came to sign up for the 24th Parade, John told me to sign up, and he would take my shift so I could spend time with my young family (being a Hotel number he could go where he wanted, or not at all). We did this for many, many years. Just a small insight to how he would do things for others. You will be missed John.

I got to work with him a bit as a crime scene investigator. He was always so kind and he really was good with people. You could tell that in conversation he cared about what we’d talk about. My heart goes out to his family.

I knew John through working with him at LDS hospital ER. I loved chatting with him, and I always felt safe when he was around. He would often walk me to my car when my shift ended in the middle of the night. He would help me scrape my windows or remove snow when my car needed it. I remember one time in particular he seemed to be eager to get me out when I was lingering after a shift. When we got to my car, he had gone out 15 minutes before my shift ended and scraped my car! It was one of the most thoughtful things a coworker had done. I remember being so grateful after a long 12-hour shift that I didn’t have to remove a bunch of snow before still driving home. He was always thinking of others and he will be sorely missed!

I became friends with John during his time as an SLPD at LDS Emergency Department. He was so kind, thoughtful, and funny. His sense of humor drew everyone in. He inspired me to become a responsible gun owner as a young woman living alone - encouraged me to take self defense classes and always advocate for myself. I learned so much from my time with John and I am forever thankful that I was able to know such a great man. He is forever in my heart & his family are in my prayers. A great light was lost but I know he’s up there making others laugh now.

I was lucky enough to meet John (Johnny as I called him) when I joined the SLCPD family. He was one of those folks that you just couldn't help but love because of his sincere heart. He truly was a kind soul. He was so even keeled that I'm not sure I ever saw him lose his cool. And that is one of the most important skills needed as a law enforcement professional. Johnny just held a special place in my heart. I liked giving him a little crap once in a while and ribbing him and sometimes I may have even embarrassed him a little, but he would just bust put in a laugh letting me know he got a kick out of it.

I'm sad to hear of his passing but I'm guessing that the big guy upstairs needed him for a greater purpose. Keep smiling Johnny and may your family find peace in the wonderful memories you all made together until you are all together again.

I loved working with John. He was a great person and we always had fun together. We would tease and taunt each other whenever BYU and the U played each other. He will be missed.
