John Parry Sanders
1931 - 2016
John Parry Sanders passed away on June 14, 2016 in Orem, UT. He was born December 7, 1931 in Salt Lake City, UT, the oldest son of Rulon Heber and Winifred Parry Sanders. Growing up there, he attended Stewart School and East High. He served as a Mormon missionary in Southern California and upon returning home, earned a bachelor’s degree at The University of Utah. In 1960 he received a DDS degree from Northwestern University in Chicago.
He married Geraldine “Cherry” Smith Nordberg in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 22, 1960. He served as a Captain in the US Air Force and his last assignment was Vandenberg Air Force Base where they made their home in Lompoc, CA and raised their family of 6 daughters. He established his dental practice and served his patients for 37 years. In 1971 Cherry was diagnosed with cancer and passed away on Nov. 2, 1972.
On May 25, 1973, he married Maureen Wride Huffaker in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. At that time, his family of 6 daughters grew to include 2 sons. In 1980, a third son joined the family.
John enjoyed dogs, hunting, fishing, golf, scout hikes, travel, and family histories. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings, including 10 years in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. He taught his children by word and example the gospel of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen, 6 daughters and 3 sons; Cathy Eliason (Tracy), Linda Allen (Craig), Cindy Sloan (Tim), Carolee Corbett (Dennis), Stephanie Graham (Curtis), Allie Trounce (Russ, deceased), Greg Sanders (Mela), Scott Sanders, and Brad Sanders (Emily). He is also survived by 3 sisters; Carolyn Hillam (Ray, deceased) Nancy Jones (Jerry), Susan Cannon (Grant) and 1 brother Steven (Shari). He has 39 grandchildren (2 deceased) and 40 great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held in the Midway Stake Center, 165 N. Center St. Midway, UT on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M.. Burial will follow at Midway City, Utah Cemetery 600 W 500 S, Midway, UT at 1:00 P.M. On Saturday, June 25, a memorial service will be held at 12:00 P.M. at 1138 E 100 S, Payson, UT.
