Jolyn Nebeker Atwood passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday August 14, 2021, after succumbing to cancer. Jolyn was born on December 10, 1948, in LaGrande, Oregon to Vern and Maxine Nebeker as the fourth of nine children. Read Obituary
Everyone who was able to know Jolyn knew she cared and took interest in them. She kept our family connected and focused on what matters. Thank you, Atwood family, for putting on a beautiful and fitting service in her memory this morning. Every message was an expression of love and hope. Hugs to Val, Shane, Doug, Jeff, Kim, Joe, Christy, Remington, Marshall, Weston, and all the family from Tyler, Stephanie & family in Washington.
As roomies in Q Hall our late night antics were sometime a little questionable. One night we both had missed dinner, had no goodies stashed to share, didn’t want to wake anyone to beg for food, so we wandered into the common room where lo and behold there was manna before our eyes in the shape of popcorn strings on the Christmas tree. We looked at each other, eyes gleaming from the tree lights as well as from our minds’ mischief. And in unison we descended upon that poor little tree and hungrily retrieved those waiting popcorn strings… and with laughter hightailed it to our room where we ravenously ate the popcorn right off the strings. What a mess we created. Satiated, but with guilty hearts, we fell asleep. After that when anyone asked about popcorn, we would look at each other and snicker…a guilty snicker, of course. That’s the only ornery thing I ever knew of Jolyn doing in our time as roomies at BYU. She is loved and will be missed. (Phyllis Madden)
Sister and Elder Atwood were a big reason of why I stayed on my mission. Seeing their love and devotion to one another, and the Lord, gave me a want to have the same. Her genuine and infectious smile will always be what I remember when I think back on Independence and those long days of estate sales and moving furniture.
She has the most inviting smile. I definitely felt her commitment and spirit to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She loved family and getting together. She was always there when I needed her. Love her and her family. She will be missed.
