Jolyn Nebeker Atwood's Obituary
Jolyn Nebeker Atwood passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday August 14, 2021, after succumbing to cancer.
Jolyn was born on December 10, 1948, in LaGrande, Oregon to Vern and Maxine Nebeker as the fourth of nine children. She graduated from LaGrande High School before attending Brigham Young University where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. While in college, she met Val Atwood and they were married for time and all eternity in the Manti, Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Val had recently returned from his service in the Vietnam War and Jolyn was teaching 5th grade at Ashley Elementary in Vernal, Utah at the time. She left her profession to raise their nine children. Jolyn was committed to her family and children and volunteered for many things including the PTA and The Boy Scouts of America.
Jolyn was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings including as a full-time missionary with her husband in the Missouri Independence Mission. She had a firm testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and a deep understanding of the gospel and the scriptures. She focused her life on sharing her testimony and knowledge with her children and everyone she knew.
Jolyn is survived by her husband Val, her children Shane Atwood, Doug (Tonia) Atwood, Jeff (Kristen) Atwood, Kim (Joe) Stoney, Joe Buck (Kati) Atwood, Christy (Kirk) Johnson, Remington (Tamara) Atwood, Marshall (Amber) Atwood, Weston (Ali) Atwood, 38 grandchildren, and all eight of her siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren, Ryan Atwood and Angelica Johnson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 21st at 11:00 AM at the American Fork Central Stake Center, 320 N 100 E, American Fork, UT. A broadcast of the funeral is also available via http://mywebcast.churchofjesuschrist.org/Events/americanforkutahcentralstake. A viewing will be held on Friday, August 20th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the same address. Interment will be at the American Fork Cemetery.
