I met Jon in his senior year of High School. We were set up for Prom by his friend Mike. He loved music and he loved to dance. He always loved hiking canyon trails and going camping. During this time he was young, healthy, and vibrant. After Prom we continued to date. He loved his Rock music and we attended the Van Halen concert when Sammy Hagar took the stage as lead singer. He also loved U2 and the Joshua Tree, and QueensRyche. He had not a ton of friends but those who were his friends were true, loyal, and supportive. Jon and I married in November of 1987 which resulted in two beautiful children. His true love was Dara Wiley Schmidt who loved him very much and continued to support and care for him in his life endeavors. He will be missed by many. -Mary-

My husband, Tyler, and I found a video of my father in law and he working together at a dite, installing hvac equipment in a new building. It's dark at first, but the light shines soon. It's a simple video but contentness on his face, doing what he likes and went to school for is apparent. Especially working with his son. My husband loved his dad so much, and although Jon and I didn't see eye to eye on some things, he was the kindest man I knew. You could talk to him about anything at all and he would advise and put his two cents in with no judgment, but rather genuine concern and interest. I have been trying to be strong and be a rock for my greiving husband since we got the initial, awful call. Now that he is slowly coming to terms with it, the delayed feeling of loss has begun to settle and the realness and permanence (depending on your beliefs of course) of his absence is...a lot to take in. I will miss youre ability to talk about anything and everything, and willingness to help, and thank you for making my husband the man he is. Thank you for all the times you helped us when we struggled as newlyweds. Just, thank you.
