Karla Sonja Hansen Wind's Obituary
With profound sadness, we bid farewell to our beloved matriarch. Karla Sonja Hansen Wind, affectionately known as Sonja, departed on March 17, 2024, her 92nd birthday, in Provo, Utah. Her presence was a beacon of love, and her influence touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Born on March 17th, 1932, in Herning, Denmark, to Peter Jensen and Amalie Alexandra Christensen, Sonja grew up amidst the challenges of a large family and the hardships of wartime rationing. Despite the trials, her spirit remained resilient.
On October 7, 1951, she wed Paul Erick Jensen, bearing two children before parting ways. Sonja's journey took a significant turn on August 4th, 1956, as she married Verner Hansen Wind and embarked on a voyage to the USA. Their arrival marked the beginning of a new chapter in Utah, where she lovingly nurtured her growing family.
Sonja's talents knew no bounds. From her skilled hands emerged countless garments from her sewing factory days and delectable Danish pastries that became neighborhood favorites. Her home, adorned with vibrant flowers and meticulous gardens, was a testament to her love for beauty and nature.
A woman of faith and community, Sonja found joy in social gatherings, handwork, and the simple pleasures of life. Yet, Sonja’s heart greatest happiness lay in the embrace of family, where laughter and love abounded.
As we grapple with the void left by Sonja's passing, we find solace in the enduring legacy of love she leaves behind. In celebrating her life, may we honor her memory and treasure the moments shared.
Sonja is reunited with her husband Werner Hansen Wind, and sons Karsten Jensen, and Martin Wind, in eternal peace. She is survived by her children, Tove Pillgaard, Erik Hansen, Irene Christiansen, Linda Kerecman, and Mona Peterson.
A memorial service to celebrate Sonja's life will be held at Calvary Mountain View Church on March 23, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, located at 340 East State Street, American Fork, UT 84003.
