Gerald Ashton
I, Gerald Ashton, Kent’s father, wish to add some detail and memories to my son Kent’s obituary. Kent had three additional half brothers that loved him very much. David, my adopted son, and Kent used to play video games together until they conquered them. On one occasion when Kent was working at Scandia Fun Center Ontario, his brother David was riding the bumper boats and Kent turned on the water jets to max and David happily drove his boat in circles around a small island laughing and getting totally soaked. Kent was one of the first to hold his half brother Dallin. One time Kent, Michelle, and Dallin hiked up above Secret Lake on our family 4th of July hike. We were all down by the lake and wondered where they were and then we saw them coming down the scree from high above. David, Dallin and their mother have been a constant support during Kent’s many medical challenges in the last four years and all love him deeply. Kent also has another special half brother through his mother named Kristofer. I invite Kris to add memories too. I spent many a day fishing, hiking, exploring in the local mountains.
One special memory was the day he and Michelle rescued a couple of bikers from a mine shaft near Manning Canyon. There were two open shafts, one was fifty feet down and the other was a thousand feet down. He and his former brother in law heard the motorcycles riding up a hill close by. Then all was silent except for a faint voice calling for help. They climbed the hill and found the two riders fifty feet down with no way to get out. Nobody had any rope so Kent tore down protective fence around the entrance and straightened it out and put it down the shaft and the two bikers crawled out to safety. One was badly injured and they were out before a search and rescue team could arrive.
