Kent J Ashton's Obituary
Amidst our grief, we must share the passing of Kent J. Ashton (53). Kent passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at St. Mark’s Hospital in Millcreek, Utah, surrounded by his loved ones.
Kent was born on May 25, 1972, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Karen Godding and Gerald Ashton. He was born the oldest son of 4 children after his older sister, Jaylene. In his adolescence, Kent had a penchant for mischief, keeping his parents on their toes and exasperating his younger siblings, Kyle and Kraig. That same spark of mischief led him to meeting his former spouse, Michelle Galetka, and at just 17 the two married in 1989, beginning a union that lasted 33 years ending in 2022.
Kent attended Utah Valley University, earning a degree in Diesel Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering. He spent much of his life working as a diesel mechanic and driving semi-trucks cross country. With a natural talent for mechanics, Kent was drawn to anything with a motor; cars, motorcycles, boats, tractors, anything he could get his hands on. He loved taking things apart just to see how they worked and always found a way to put them back together. Along the way, he built not only a career but countless lifelong friendships. Known for his unfiltered humor, although sometimes crass and rough around the edges, you always knew it came from a place of love. Kent’s laughter, charm, and charisma left a lasting impression wherever he went.
Kent’s talents extended far beyond his trade. He grew up with a love for the outdoors that stayed with him throughout life. Whether wandering the desert, camping under the stars, or breathing in mountain air, nature was where he felt most at home. He loved to explore abandoned precious metal mines, finding whatever treasures he could to bring home. Kent spent years riding “dirt bikes” and ATVs through the Utah dunes with friends and family. His passion for engines lead him to work as a pit mechanic for Pro Motocross. Additionally, Kent became a certified Master Scuba Diver, earning his rank
in the Florida Keys. He was a gifted artist with a love for sketching trucks and show car designs. His artwork was often shared with those closest to him.
Kent is survived by his beloved daughter, Arcadia, his previous spouse, Michelle Ashton, his parents, Gerald and Karen, his sister, Jaylene Harvey, and his brother, Kyle Ashton. He is also remembered by a large and loving extended family of cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Kraig Ashton.
Kent was many things: a father, a brother, a friend, a craftsman, and a storyteller. More than anything, he was unapologetically himself. Kent lived life on his own terms. He lived fully, loved deeply, and left behind a legacy of grit, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate to have known him.
A celebration of Kent’s life will be held in May 2026, giving family and friends the opportunity to gather in the season of his birth to honor his memory and share stories of the love, laughter, and adventures he left behind.
