Korey Mitchel Smith
July 21, 1994-April 2, 2021 Age 26
Korey was born in Rock Spring, Wyoming. The son of Donald Smith, of Rock Springs, and Sheila Smith of Salt Lake City. Korey attended school in Rock Springs until 2011, then moving to Millcreek, UT where he graduated from Granite Peaks High School.
Anything that Korey set his mind to he could pick up and excel in, like he had been doing it for years. This included football, baseball, basketball, snowboarding, dirt biking and especially his “therapy” the gym. Although he could never seem to get good at golf. He enjoyed helping his friends at the gym, and would lend a hand to anyone that would need it. He could make friends with anyone and from all walks of life. His personality drew people in and made them feel comforted and safe.
Korey believed that all animals just knew he was a good guy and loved them. He was the guy to ask any person if he could pet their dog, horse, goat, fox, etc. Animals could see that his heart was as big as his hands. He loved his rescues puppies; Bowzzer and Tonka.
Korey enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad, and camping with his family at Willow Lake and other favorite spots. Korey picked up his dad’s work ethic and drive. This helped him be the leader and success he was at the job that he loved. Korey was the lead lighting installation technician for Jellyfish Lighting for the past 2 years.
Korey was a mamma’s boy and his sister’s boy who was excellently taken care of by these women. He had his mom with him every step of the way and she was always going to show up for him no matter what. His sis, Sam, was not only his best friend but a second mother to him. No matter what happened in life they were two peas in a pod. They both taught Korey the true meaning of unconditional love, which is what he showed his niece Aub (Aubriey) and then his son Sebastian (Bash). In Korey’s eyes, Aubbie could do no wrong, but boy did they enjoy picking on each other but he wouldn’t let anyone else pick on that little girl. Their playing and joking was their love language and he has always been her bubba.
When Korey found out he was Bash’s dad, loving him unconditionally and being a dad came so natural to him. That baby and his dad were just meant to be together and Bash had his whole heart from day one. Not only does Bash have Korey’s looks, smile, big hands but most importantly that same huge heart.
Thankfully, Korey had the opportunity to experience that “once in a lifetime” love with the love of his life Zizi. Their life together was just beginning but they loved each other fiercely and hard for what they hoped would be forever, raising their kids together.
Survivors include his son Sebastian Troy Smith, father Don Smith, mother Sheila Smith, sister Samantha Smith, niece Aubriey Smith, significant other Zizi Reuter and her daughter. Extended family including uncle Rob Smith, uncle Terry and aunt Krista Coffelt, aunt Belinda Coffelt, cousins Tara, Sarah and Whitney, Nic, Justin, Tessa, Annette, Cody, Chery Leigh, Josh and Ryan. Plus many more extended family. Preceded in death by grandma Barbara Smith and grandparents Essie and L.A. Coffelt.
