Larry Frank Olsen's Obituary
Larry Frank Olsen age 75, passed away peacefully at his sister's home, on September 25th 2022, after a battle with dementia. Larry was born in Douglas, Arizona on November 9, 1946, to Jay Frank and Margaret Balderas Olsen. He graduated from Hillcrest High School class of 1965 whereupon he served a full-time mission in San Palo, Brazil. He attended the University of Utah, BYU and eventually completed his education after moving to California, graduating from the California State University at Los Angeles in 1977 where he obtained his Bachelor’s of Arts in Speech Pathology. He worked for the Los Angeles School District as a Speech Therapist for 30 years and decided he was done (too much politics and paperwork he said) and retired at 55 where he proudly built his first home and settled in St. George, Utah.
Throughout his life, Larry was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He choicest callings were working tirelessly in the Young Men’s Association both in California and St. George. And while living in St. George, he caught the spirit of genealogy and for the rest of his life, he worked every day at the Church’s Family Research Center and completed the work for his ancestors in the St. George, Temple. He also had a deep passion for music and loved singing in the choir especially at Christmas time when they would perform their annual Messiah and loved the opportunities he had of leading music while in Brazil.
While serving his mission in San Palo, Brazil, he fell in love with both the country and the people. He would often visit Brazil spending summers as well as winters with his friends and family (as he would call them) and was so grateful the Lord decided to send him there in the first place. He never tired of speaking Portuguese or Spanish and was fluent in both languages. Something he was very proud of.
Larry loved to travel whether it be by plane or long road trips and was always discovering southern Utah particularly the area around Zions National Park. He loved watching the University of Utah Football games especially because of his personal relationship with Kyle Whittingham, the head coach. He cherished his time whenever any of his family, relatives and friends would stop by to say hi.
Larry is preceded in death by his older brother, Richard Jay Olsen and is survived by two younger sisters, Helen Livingston and Marilynn Bone. He is also survived by 20 nieces and nephews, 2 wonderful Aunts, Delores Andrus and Margaret Livingston and 1 Uncle, Roberto Balderas.
Larry, we love you and will miss you with all of our hearts and God be with you (oh, he already is lol) til we meet again!
