LaRue Drechsel Rencher's Obituary
LaRue was born in Salt Lake City to Gerhardt and Erna Drechsel October 28, 1939. She grew up in Pioneer Stake. She had a happy childhood in a neighborhood where many of her uncles, aunts, and cousins lived.
She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City and later attended BYU and graduated with a double major in Family Science and Elementary Education. She was an elementary school teacher, she started a preschool, and taught at American Heritage School for a few years.
She met her future husband, Alvin Rencher, at Jacob Lake Arizona. He lovingly called her “Little One” for their entire marriage of over 60 years. They were married on June 22, 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City, New Jersey, Washington State, Virginia and Georgia. They spent most of their married lives in Provo, where her husband taught at BYU. They are very proud of their three children: David (Tamara), Michael (Valerie) and Ashley (Brian), all three of whom served missions and all three obtained Masters degrees at BYU with the encouragement of Mom. They have nine grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and three sisters: Dolores Huff, Janet Wenzel and Sandie Winkelkotter.
LaRue had a beautiful singing voice and often sang solos and in small groups. She served decades in the Primary as well as other callings. She served missions with her husband in Mexico City and San Diego. She loved attending the temple and served as a Provo Temple ordinance worker for 18 years. Hers was a life of service to family, friends and neighbors. She quietly went about doing good. She was a beautiful giver.
LaRue made friends wherever she went. Her love for others truly shined as she served as a senior missionary with young missionaries and as she worked with Primary children. She always made everything fun, especially Christmas, her favorite holiday. Just ask her grandkids.
