Lewis Richard Hansen's Obituary
Lewis Richard Hansen passed away unexpectedly July 5th 2025. Lewis was born on August 20, 1953, in Ogden, Utah, to Richard Lewellyn Hansen and La Rue Alkema, Lewis was a bright and active child from the start.
Lewis's early years were marked by his passion for sports and intellect. He played football for Highland High School and honed his sharp mind as a valued member of the debate team. Following high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in North Carolina, an experience that deepened his faith.
On July 30, 1979, Lewis married Christine Kendall, and together they welcomed four spirited redheads into their lives. Lewis achieved a significant milestone, earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Utah's College of Law on May 19, 1979. He went on to practice law in both California and Utah, and won many awards throughout his legal career. Beyond his legal career, Lewis had a unique entrepreneurial spirit, finding joy in selling baseball cards.
Lewis cherished coaching his sons' baseball teams, instilling in them not just skills but also a love for the game. He was an avid golfer and loved showing his grandchildren how to play. He was a devoted fan of the Utah Utes and the Utah Jazz, always ready to cheer on his favorite teams.
In his later years, Lewis found profound comfort and joy in his faith. He loved attending his ward, reading his scriptures, and sharing his countless stories and jokes with anyone who would lend an ear. He had a remarkable ability to enjoy and be present in the moment, finding happiness in the simple things, like jamming out to rock music. Lewis loved his family fiercely, in his own unique way, and his grandchildren were a constant source of delight, thrilling him with every visit.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lewellyn Hansen and La Rue Alkema. He is survived by his children: Misty Drollinger (Jon), Matthew Hansen, Ashley Haynes (Matthew), and David Hansen. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Mason (14), Gwen (13), Nora (11), Emery (10), Jak (8), Owen (8), and bonus grandchildren Athan, Myla, and Evalee. He is also survived by his sister Elaine Dahlgren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 6770 S 500 E, Midvale, UT 84047. A viewing will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The burial will be at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Dr, Millcreek, UT 84106.
