Lois Darlene Woodruff Weber's Obituary
Lois Darlene Woodruff Weber, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, in Mapleton, Utah. She was 88 years old. Lois was known to her friends and family as Darlene. Her mother was also Lois and there could not be two Lois’ in the family so, she went by her middle name her whole life.
Darlene was born August 13, 1934 in Cottonwood, Salt Lake, Utah. Her parents were Clive Shields Woodruff and Lois Merinda Holt. She was the oldest of three children. Darlene was born into an old Pioneer Family. She is a great granddaughter of President Wilford Woodruff and his 5th wife, Sarah Delight Stocking. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP) and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
She grew up off of Highland Drive surrounded by all of her cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. She loved going to Woodruff Family Reunions. She loved going up Little Cottonwood Canyon and having picnics. She helped her mother a lot growing up. They preserved fruits, vegetable and meats. Mom was the bottle washer, because her hands could fit inside the canning jars.
She met her husband, Clarence “Bud” LeRoy Weber, on a blind date. She had gone out with one of his roommates and it was a disaster. But her friend set her up with Bud. Mom says it was love at first sight. Shortly after they met, Bud left for a job in California. They kept in touch, for two years, with letters, telephone calls and Bud visiting from California.
They were married on July 7, 1958 by President James E Faust, who was her Stake President at that time. She used to baby-sit President Faust and his wife, Ruth’s children. The next day Bud and Darlene moved to San Jose, California, honeymooning along the way. A son, Bob, was born in 1959. And a daughter, Lisa in 1964. They made their life in California.
Mom loved living in “Sunny” California. She loved her callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She enjoyed being a visiting teacher and she made many friends. She served in the ward library for many years. But her favorite calling was in the Primary. She loved the children.
Mom was a hard worker. She loved being a homemaker. She always had meals on the table for her family. She loved canning and drying fruit.
In 2016, Bud and Darlene moved back to Utah to be near their daughter and three grandchildren. In 2020, during Covid, mom moved in with her daughter and grandchildren. She loved living with her grandchildren, the cats, the dog and the chickens. Mom made friends with her grandchildren’s friends and always greeted them when they came over.
Darlene is survived in death by her son, Bob and daughter, Lisa and her three wonderful grandchildren, Jose, Rose and Sophie, sister Ellen Schafbuch and her family and mom’s many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, her parents, her son in law, Larry Dungan and her brother Ron Woodruff.
A viewing will be held Sunday, September 25th, 6-8pm at Premier Funeral Services, 1160 N 1200 W in Orem, Utah, with graveside services on Monday, September 26th, 12:00 noon at the Spanish Fork Cemetery, 420 S 400 E, Spanish Fork, Utah.
