Russ and I were on that same flight to Ft. Lewis where we trained together for four months. The Vietnam war was different than others as units did not stay together after training. Russ and I served in different units in Vietnam and got together briefly afterwards before moving on with our lives post military. I have thought about him and his kind ways frequently over the years. He was a caring and kind friend, who when we did talk, was interested in me and my family and I appreciated his affection. Our mutual comrade and pal, Kyle who came home paralyzed from the war was always a topic in our conversations. I know how Russ loved Kyle and I hope they have now reunited. I loved them both and hope to someday be with them. That we were thrown together for a brief space in time here in mortality was no accident, I believe. I am sad to learn of his passing and regret that we did not spend some “old geezer” time together. Rest well, brother…
