Lorin Russell Jessop's Obituary
Lorin Russell Jessop, age 74, passed away peacefully at home on March 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 19, 1950, in Crescent, Utah, to Lorin Royal and Ellen Jenson Jessop, Russ graduated from Jordan High School on May 23, 1968. Shortly thereafter, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, flying to Fort Lewis, Washington, on March 16, 1970. He proudly served in the Vietnam War, earning the Purple Heart Award, and returned home on October 21, 1971—just two weeks before the passing of his sister, Rosalie.
In the early stages of his career, Russ worked for Bennett’s Paint. Following his military service, he continued driving for the company before becoming an owner/operator in long-haul trucking. While attending Utah Technical College in Orem as an apprentice ironworker, he faced a serious setback: a major accident in Evanston, Wyoming, in 1981, which required several months of recovery. After healing, he returned to the workforce, driving for Coca-Cola and later for Albertsons, before joining ABF, where he remained until his retirement.
Russ was a deeply patriotic man who took great pride in his service to his country. He enjoyed long drives and traveling, especially cherishing a memorable cruise to Alaska. With a remarkable ability to make friends, he seemed to know someone wherever he went. Above all, his greatest love was for his family.
Russ is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Russ (Kim) Jessop, Levi Jessop, Dana Miner, and Jeremy (Heather) Miner; and his grandchildren, Barrett, Bryce, and Hunter Jessop, as well as Hunter (James) Kinder, Hadley, Bryton, and Jaelyn Miner. He also leaves behind his great-granddaughter, Emersyn. His siblings include Scott (Lynda), Jay (Angela), Val (Rockie), Julie (Brooks), Lamar (Kitty), MarJean (Aaron), Gloria (Aaron), Gladys (Hyrum), Richard (Garland), Roger, Joe (Molly), Alyson (Mark), Rosie (Jeff) and sister in law Jill (Steve) Levingston. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, located at 17111 S. Camp Williams Road (1700 W.) Bluffdale, Utah.
