Lyle Gene Schumacher's Obituary
Lyle Gene Schumacher, age 74, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 5, 1950, in Sigourney, Iowa, Lyle was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle.
Lyle graduated from Sigourney High School in 1968 and went on to earn a degree in Electronic Technologies from Indian Hills Community College. He joined his father to run Sigourney’s TV & Electronics, and after his father passed, continued the family legacy with his mother, the receptionist.
After visiting family in Utah, Lyle and Pat recognized if there was ever an opportunity to move, the Utah mountains called their name. In 1984, Lyle recognized the potential for a better life and secured a job at ATK as an Electronic Maintenance Technician. Auctioning off the majority of furniture and household items, loaded a moving trailer, Lyle relocated the family to Utah. Despite the move, his family roots remained deep in Iowa, visiting family and friends through the years, always focusing on the importance of family.
He dedicated over 27 years of his life to a successful career at ATK, where he was recognized for his innovative solutions, hands on experience, and leadership. After retirement, he continued to devote his love to his wife, enjoying their weekly “round-abouts”, which were car rides that generally took “around” two hours. During this time, they built new memories, shared experiences, and developed new relationships.
Lyle supported and loved his Grandchildren, attending concerts, plays, recitals, sporting events, and anything else that strengthened the family bond. He offered his wisdom and his laughter, celebrating birthdays with a phone call and birthday song. He was never one to miss a photobomb or strategically placed bunny ears.
Our father was recognized for his mischievous smile, booming voice, twinkling blue eyes, storytelling, and ability to make friends with every person he met. Lyle always joked about writing a memoir, “Memories of an Old Fart - Nothing But Gas” and over the last eighteen days of his life managed to share and create enough stories, laughter, and love to fill several volumes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 54 years, Patricia Kay; his children, Tina (Bruce), Anthony (Denise), and Tiffany Vida (Josh); and his grandchildren, Tanner (Alyssa), Aspen (Kyle), Bridger (Maria), Hunter, and Addylaide; grandpuppies, Buster and BoBo. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ethel, and his brother, Richard.
Join us to celebrate his incredible life on July 13, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm in Kaysville, Utah. And instead of flowers, do Lyle proud by supporting your local independent eateries- places where he mastered the art of making friends over a meal.
A special thank you to Imperial Dragon in Clearfield, Utah for your kindness and generosity to Lyle. Heartfelt thanks to Intermountain Health and Hospice for wrapping him in comfort and love in his final days.
”Putting one foot in front of the other, always moving forward.” - Lyle Gene Schumacher
