My first memory of Maxine was at a Cutler family reunion at Hells Canyon, Idaho. Golden, a nephew, and I, Jessica, had just gotten married a few weeks prior. Maxine was preparing a dinner and I wanted to jump right in and do whatever I could to help out. I quickly realized that Maxine was very particular in how she wanted the food cut and prepared and I was so worried I was going to disappoint. My mother-in-law, Brenda Thomas, and her sister, Betty, quickly assured me to not worry and that Maxine loved me no matter how I cut the veggies. But to let her do it her way anyways. I learned right off the bat that Maxine liked things a certain way and loved to take care of people. I saw this care and love throughout all the time I knew her. And even though I wasn’t a blood relative, she always made me feel like one.
