Maya Nakahara
1929 - 2017
Maya Nakahara, beloved mother and grandmother, passed unexpectedly but peacefully in her home on November 10, 2017 at the age of 89.
Maya is survived by her daughters: Naomi Hite and her husband and Setsu Murdock and her husband, as well as nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Maya was born in Tokyo on October 3, 1929 to Toichi Kurokawa and Matsuko Hirose. She studied at Kyoto Women’s University, studying early child education and child psychology, was an elementary school teacher, and genealogist in the LDS Japanese Genealogical Society.
She married her eternal companion Tadao Nakahara on April 29, 1954 and they raised their two daughters together until his passing in March 21, 1970.
Maya was a devoted mother and grandmother and a beloved friend to all who knew her. Maya dedicated her life to missionary service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by serving missions as a Tokyo Japan Temple Missionary, Taipei Taiwan Temple Missionary, and Family History Missionary at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. She enjoyed family history and temple work, Ikebana, Japanese calligraphy, knitting, and playing the piano and the harp.
Funeral service will be 11a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 with viewing at 10:15 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 2465 South 800 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.
