Merlyn, is one of the finest people I had the honor in knowing.
He was fiercely loyal to his family and loved them with all his heart.
He lived a life in honor of his savior and was a true patriot in every sense of the word.
We will miss you my dear friend. Thank you for your example in the face of adversity.

Merlin always knew how to make you feel loved and seen. When he saw you walk in the room his face would light up with a big smile and he would hug you tight and great you with such warmth and kindness that you would feel like the most important person in the world. He has always held a dear spot in my heart and forever will. My love goes out to all his wonderful family and beautiful sweet wife. Love you all ❤️
We grew up in Sugar City, Idaho a small town north of Rexburg but what a great place to live. Sports were common to us playing football, basketball and baseball. We graduated from High School and went in different directions, but the fun memories remain. I'll always remember when my wife and I came out of the Idaho Falls Temple to start our honeymoon. We got in the car, and I tried to back up out of our parking spot, but nothing happened. I got out to see why and discovered the rear tires had been blocked up just enough to clear the pavement. Merlin and my uncle Doyle were laughing at the prank they had played. Isn't great that we know we will meet again in a better world. My condolence at your immediate loss but it will be a happy reunion in the next world. May peace and solace come to you and yours. Your friend, always, Gaylen.
Merlin and I grew up together. Same ward, same grade, same everything. We remained friends until he decided to leave early. We had many good times playing football and basketball. We would go to the dances together so we could watch everyone dance but us. Enjoyed the live music in those days. Even after Della Jean and I were married, we could not get rid of him. He lived with us and we worked construction together during the summer months. Even his brother Demar lived with us for a while. We stayed in touch until the end. Maybe he will put in a good word for me on the other side. I need all the help i can get. Bonnie, I know your pain. May you be blest during this mourning time and feel the peace and comfort of the knowledge you have of the Gospel. May Merlin rest in peace. Until we meet again.
I will never forget one year, at Bear Lake, Dick was going to pull Merlin on the water ski. Unbeknownst to Merlin, while standing on the dock, after yelling "hit it!", Brent and Brian held on to the ski, so that when the rope got tight, Merlin was pulled out of the ski, and hit the water, face first! Now, being Etsel Sommer's daughter, I was terrified about how mad he was going to be. To my utter shock, Merlin came up from the water, laughing! I will always remember Merlin as a fun-loving, patient, compassionate man, who was crazy about his kids, and over the moon for his wife, Bonnie.
