Merlin Joseph Weekes' Obituary
Our wonderful, amazing, strong, generous, and wise father, grandfather, and husband,
Merlin Joseph Weekes, graduated from this earthly life December 29, 2023. Merlin
fought a brave battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. He was born in
Rexburg, Idaho on November 1, 1938 but lived most of his life in Sugar City. Merlin
loved sports and lettered in basketball and football in high school. Much of his
employment was working on farms and construction until he got his degree in business
as an honor student at BYU. Merlin then became a Pharmaceutical representative
where he was man of the year the first two years. He followed that as an Insurance
representative and made the million dollar round table the first year. He was always a
top producer in sales because he loved people. Merlin loved his country and worked
with the National Write Your Congressman over 6 states. He loved that job because he
was a true patriot.
Merlin was a follower of Jesus Christ and he had a solid testimony that He lives! He
never stopped testifying of this truth. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the solid foundation
of his life and was infused with everything he did! In his youth he served a mission for
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission which
covered five states. He was a bishop and served in three bishoprics as a counselor. He
was a true servant of the Lord.
Merlin's family was his greatest treasure and he loved them fiercely. He taught his
family with love and had a gift of seeing the best inside of you and loved you where you
were on your path in life. He had a natural gift of counseling and his family and friends
often sought his wise counsel and advice. Merlin was married to his sweet wife 59
years. She was a single mom with five children when they married. He not only
adopted her children but was sealed as a family for time and all eternity. They
completed their family with two more children.
Merlin is survived by his sweetheart, Bonnie Wiseman Weekes, his brother DeMar
Weekes (Doreen) and Shirley Bailey (Dick) and all of his 105 offspring including his
children: Bryan Weekes (DeeAnn), Brent Weekes (Violet), Brad Weekes (Stephanie),
Bruce Weekes (Nancy), Debbie Bennion (Ron), Melinda Sowers (Walter), and Brandon
Weekes (Cynthia).
Services to honor this great man, husband, father and friend will be held at the LDS
Church at 500 South 600 West, Orem, Utah 84058.
