Michael "Mike" Ray Wright's Obituary
Michael Ray Wright, I returned to our Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on January 7, 2011 at home, surrounded by his loved ones. Michael was born October 27, 1946 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. When he was 9 years old his family moved to Kearns, Utah. He graduated from Granger High in 1964. At age 19 Michael enjoyed serving an LDS work mission in Bloomfield, New Mexico building chapels. Michael was married to Johanna Vera Grandjean March 18, 1966. They had three wonderful children together before divorcing in 1988. He started work at Kennecott Utah Copper in 1969 as crane operator, worked his way up to foreman and then retired after 40 years. He was married to Janaan Sebring on March 14, 1998 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Through this union he happily gained a step-daughter. He loved spending time with his family and traveling with the love of his life, Jan. Mike and Jan have many cherished memories. Together they explored the world including France, Holland, England, Italy and all over the United States. One of their most memorable adventures was living in Africa for 3 months when Mike took a job as a contractor to help start up a copper smelter. Mike loved golfing with family and friends, camping, four wheeling, kayaking in Hawaii, hiking, and walking on the beach in Oregon. He was a wonderful teacher to his family and all those around him by word and example. He recently enjoyed his calling teaching the Marriage and Family Relations class in Sunday School. He was a history buff and when he wasn’t on the golf course you could catch him reading a book any time there was a quiet moment. He was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for his family. Sunday dinner and family barbecue’s were his specialty. He was always happy to fire up the grill for any occasion. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He always found a way to help those in need. Mike is preceded in death by his father Armond Wright, his mother Valerie Hutchison Wright, and his brother Frank T. Orgill. He is survived by his wife Jan, his children; Michael Ray Wright, II, Candace Hatch, Wendy Wright and Jackie Nuttall; his eleven grandchildren his brothers; Ralph and Lee Wright, his little sis Bonnie Barela and his loyal dog Daisy.
A funeral on his behalf will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the 13th West LDS Chapel at 7350 South 1300 West, West Jordan, Utah. There will be a viewing prior to the funeral at 9:30 a.m.
