Michael Steven Sonognini's Obituary
Michael Steven Sonognini passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on
June 23, 2024, after battling terminal cancer for 14 years. He was born on October 25,
1951, to Michael and Wanda Sonognini in Aiea, Hawaii. He spent his childhood years
fishing, surfing, and diving the beaches of Oahu while protecting his 4 younger siblings:
David, Valerie, John, and Danny. He had a strong respect and loyalty to true Aloha and
was a very proud Hawaiian.
Michael joined the Air Force when he was 17 years old and while stationed at Hill AFB,
Utah he met his Kuuipo, Susan. They were married on September 21, 1974. They
resided in the West Haven, Utah area for the next 50 years where they raised their 7
children. He served in the Federal Government as an Air Traffic Controller for 34 years,
mostly at the Salt Lake City Airport.
Michael had many hobbies throughout his life and was always all in. He spent many
years training racing horses for Chariot Racing with his best friend Danny Thomas until
he decided to raise the coolest chickens and pigeons around. He was a phenomenal
chef and loved to cook for others. He fed hundreds of people over the years for many
different events or holidays. His favorite was the 4th of July and always made sure
everyone had a great meal and the best time. His tradition of the 4th will be forever
cherished and carried on for years to come.
Michael loved family time and took his kids/grandkids on many trips including camping,
fishing, hunting, visiting family in Hawaii, and his favorite going to Lake Powell with the
Story’s. His love of karaoke, outdoor movies, cards, Pig Roasts, boating, and fireworks
have left family and friends with everlasting memories of pure joy.
Michael would often say, “Ohana is the most important thing.” An enforcer of hard work,
bodyguard, a true warrior, fiercely loyal to those he loved, and his ability to lead will live
on for generations. His loved ones can take comfort in knowing he will always be in the
stands cheering them on. A Hui Hou Kakou, Dad.
The family wishes to express with deep gratitude for the kindness, support, and
compassionate care our father received from Dr. Gray and his staff at Ogden Clinic for
the last 14 years.
Proceded in death by his father Michael H. Sonognini, his son Ryan K. Sonognini, and
grandson Michael Jarek Sonognini. Michael is survived by his wife Susan Sonognini; his children Mike (Jenn), Shane (Kim), Kami (Dustin) Lefevre, Jeff (Alise), Chris (Joling), and Stefani (Tyler) Peterson; his
mother (Wanda), his brothers and sisters, grandchildren, great grandson, and many
nieces and nephews who will forever look to his example.
