Richard Paul Druce
1932 – 2017
Richard Paul Druce, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great- great- grand father and friend passed away peacefully on March 18, 2017 of issues incident to age surrounded by loved ones.
Paul was born July 6, 1932 as the third of seven children of loving parents Richard and Ida Druce. He attended West High School and played on the football and basketball teams. After graduating he entered the United States Navy in July of 1949 and after boot camp he served on 5 different ships. Towards the end of his Navy career his orders sent him to the Naval Training center in Great Lakes Ill as a recruit training instructor, followed by his retirement in 1970. Paul then began his second career with Albertsons in their logistics division as a Facilities Maintenance Manager for several distribution centers throughout the country over 23 years. After retiring in 1997 he spent the next 20 years enjoying spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the University of Utah Crimson Club and a long term season ticket holder, he rarely missed tailgating or a football game. He enjoyed golf, travel and doing home improvement projects. He was a High Priest in the Melchizedek Priesthood in the LDS church. Throughout his life, he touched many people with his caring, humor and genuine good nature.
Paul is survived and will be sorely missed by his children, Patricia Nunn Turner (Mike) of Napa California, Pamela Jean Curtis and children, Dawn DeMarco of Gilbert Arizona, Richard Paul Druce II (Sybil) of Victoria Minnesota, Ida Marie MacKenzie of Herriman, Lawrence Thomas Druce of West Jordan, and their mother, Millie Hathaway. Grandchildren, Sheri Nunn (Mike), Brandon Pearce, Jantel VanOrden (AJ), Terrah Lund (John), Anthony Rubis, Ryan Druce, Bradly Druce, Travis Turner, Phillip, Billy, Tommy and Bobby Gainer. Great Grandchildren; Aaron Kenny (Megan), Kassandra Kenny (Suede), Reagan Pearce, Marlee VanOrden, Zaxon Ray, Zenna Ray. Great-Great Grandchildren: Mackenzie Kenny, Olivia Kenny. Siblings, Marie Hayes (Kelly) of Council Bluff Iowa, Thomas Druce (Elaine) of West Valley, Lawrence Druce (Arva) or West Valley. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Richard Henry Druce, mother Ida Druce, sister Mildred Druce, Infant Child brother, son Daniel Erving Snow, daughter Ethel Marie Gainer, brother Harold Druce, Patricia Nunn Turner's mother (June Druce), Carolyn Druce, Ruth Druce. Paul helped raise many step children and grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Thursday March 23rd from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the LDS Church, 1433 East Old Mission Road in Sandy. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. in the same chapel. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City cemetery located at “N” Street and 3rd Avenue, Salt Lake City.
