Richard Leland Erickson's Obituary
After a short but painful bout with cancer Richard Leland Erickson passed away peacefully, and surrounded by loved ones, in his Orem, Utah home. He was born April 20, 1951, died June 27, 2012, and spent his dash well. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Carter, and his wife, Lori Richards. He is survived by his father, Abram Leland Erickson, four siblings: Dean (Jan), Linda (Rick), Keith (Heidi), & Dennis (Lori), seven children: Joshua (Charlotte), Caleb (Melissa), Samuel (Kelsey), Leifka (Travis), Jeremy, Jesse (Emily), & Esther, and seven grandchildren. He was gentle and loving, a disciple and scholar, a devoted husband and doting father, and a man whose influence will span generations to come. He was loved (and will be missed) by all who knew him – both family and friends (and all he met were friends). He was born in Price, Utah, raised in Bountiful, Utah, served as a Latter-day Saint missionary in Seattle Washington, and graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in archeology (with an emphasis in paleontology). It was at BYU that he met his wife, Lori. They met in an Israeli folk dancing class (where they danced barefoot), and she initially got his attention by hiding his shoes. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Geneva Heights 2nd Ward, 590 North 900 West, Orem, UT. Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday evening at the church and one hour prior to the services. Interment at the Provo City Cemetery.
